Alexis Scarborough

Registered Associate MFT #145251

Hello, and welcome! I'm Alexis.

I'm a warm, integrative, and neurodivergent-affirming therapist with a focus on couples and individual adults navigating life's complexities. I see clients in-person in Petaluma and Santa Rosa, and online throughout California.

I work with clients experiencing many concerns, specializing in:

  • Neurodiverse couples in which one or both partners are neurodivergent

  • Couples experiencing relational challenges including betrayal, sex/intimacy concerns, parenting differences, and/or family issues

  • Individuals and/or couples exploring late diagnosed neurodivergence

  • High pressure careers/midlife changes

  • Body image concerns/disordered eating

  • HSP (Highly Sensitive People)

  • Questions around identity and authentic self

  • Creative blocks

  • Burnout

  • Anxiety

How We Can Work Together

I help couples identify and map negative cycles in order to build mutual understanding and shift relationships into a place of more secure, positive, and healthy dynamics that can be taken out of the therapy room and into daily life. I guide neurodivergent couples in fostering emotional connection, improved communication, and increased relational attunement.

I support individuals experiencing anxiety, shame, disordered eating, life transitions, and late neurodivergent diagnoses in nurturing lives that come from a place of decreased judgement and increased self-compassion, understanding, authenticity, and personal agency.

My Therapeutic Style: Integrative and Neurodivergent-Affirming

Drawing on Internal Family Systems (IFS), Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO: IFS for couples), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and contemporary psychodynamic therapy, we'll work to gain deeper understanding of your past and the barriers and coping strategies that may stand in the way of the life you want to live — replacing them with new, healthier patterns when the time is right. We may also use complementary therapeutic methods as appropriate such as Healing Shame, mindfulness, and breathwork. These models are non-pathologizing and amplify compassionate attunement. Therapy with me is person-centered and trauma-informed, so we'll go at your pace and only use methods with your consent. You're always the expert on you.

My Education and Clinical Training

I hold a Master's of Science (MS) in Counseling Psychology from Dominican University of California, with a dual emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) and Professional Clinical Counseling (PCC). I completed my practicum at Dominican's University Counseling Services (UCS) with Diane Suffridge, Ph.D. During my time at UCS, I was trained in psychodynamic Control Mastery Theory and contemporary psychoanalytic psychotherapy, with an emphasis on trauma-informed care.

I also hold a Master's of Art (MA) in Art History with a focus on gender and the role of women. My BA is from UC Berkeley, where I studied Studio Art and Costume Design. I am a 150-hour certified vinyasa yoga instructor and have spent over 30 years practicing mindfulness, meditation, and breathwork. In addition, I am a 30-hour trained crisis and suicide prevention counselor.

In my current work at de la Rosa Psychotherapists, I've trained in IFS, IFIO, Healing Toxic Shame, and Emotionally Focused (EFT) modalities. I've also completed specialized training and workshops in Jungian Depth Psychology, sex/intimacy, and neurodiverse couples.

I've worked clinically with clients from a wide range of religious, spiritual, professional, cultural, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds, as well as working with many clients from communities of color, the LGBTQIA+ community, first generation individuals and college students, students shifting from high school to college, competitive student athletes, clients with disordered eating and/or OCD, late diagnosed neurodivergent individuals and couples, and couples experiencing communication struggles, betrayal, family concerns, and/or intimacy issues. I've worked with clients ages 17–82 and enjoy working with folks in various stages of life's journey.

The quality of our relationship is an extremely important part of successful therapy. If you'd like to see if we're a good fit, please reach out for a free 20-minute phone consultation. I look forward to hearing from you!
